CA Bans Common Interview Questions

Starting January 1, 2018, California employers will no longer be able to ask about a candidate’s criminal history before a conditional offer of employment, and will not be able to ask a candidate about their pay history.

California’s reform join over 150 other cities and counties that have “banned the box” from the employment process, in hopes employers to consider a candidate’s qualifications before criminal history comes into play.

The state’s salary ban also requires employers to give applicants pay scale information if they request it. New York, Massachusetts, Philadelphia, New Orleans and Puerto Rico have also eliminated salary history from their hiring process.
